Two-Phase Paving Method for Quality Driveways
A heavy-built crushed-stone foundation and thick asphalt layers — the method our owner developed decades ago.
At Dependable Paving Co., we use a two-phase method for driveway installation that our owner developed decades ago. This method ensures the construction of a heavy-built crushed-stone foundation with the binder layer of asphalt installed in Phase I, and the installation of the top coat in Phase II. Our two-phase process focuses on full depth excavation, thick layers of stone and asphalt, and using quality materials throughout the build to give you an asphalt surface that will last for decades.
New Sub-Base and the Binder Layer of Asphalt
Excavation
Old driveway or new driveway area is excavated 12" below final grade.
Geo-Textile Fabric
Geo-textile fabric installation over exposed sub-soil to prevent tire-rutting.
Stone Sub-Base
10" of runnercrush stone is installed over geo-textile fabric. Minus-4 stone is big, fist-sized runnercrush and has great weight-bearing capacity; smaller runnercrush is installed over the larger, minus-4 runnercrush for a smooth grade.
Binder Installation
3" of binder hot-mix asphalt is installed over newly-prepared stone sub-base.
The Top Coat
The following year, Phase II is installed.
Driveway Resurface
A resurface is installing a new layer of hot-mix asphalt over an existing layer of established pavement — a new surface without excavation or sub-base work.
Engineered for Durability, Safety, and Longevity
If your property in Syracuse, NY, requires new pavement, delays or substandard work can lead to long-term structural issues, safety hazards, and diminished curb appeal. Dependable Paving Co., Inc. specializes in both asphalt and concrete pavement installation in Syracuse, NY, serving residential, commercial, and municipal clients with equal rigor. Each project begins with a thorough site assessment to determine load requirements, drainage patterns, and material compatibility.
We recognize that pavement installation must account for freeze-thaw cycles, snow loads, and seasonal saturation. Our approach integrates engineered base layers, geotextile separation fabrics where needed, and precise slope alignment to ensure water flows away—not under—the finished surface. Asphalt installations are completed with hot-mix materials applied at optimal temperatures for maximum compaction and adhesion.
